We ran into this strange huge chimney on our walk this afternoon on 10th Ave. It was on a construction site, maybe for another new condo development.
A fantasized on having a glass staircase around the chimney - I am sure for some reason, maybe by law, the developer is not allowed to tear down the chimney, but is it too much for us to also ask that they make sensible, even smart use of it?
The beauty of 10th. Avenue is that it gives you an almost surreal perspectives of the city - you see Empire State on your close left and you also see the newly minted Chelsea Arts Tower on your right hand side, in between, there are deserted rail road and bridges.
Then we saw the quite stirred-up Chelsea Arts Tower. Quite like the cement wall, with small pores and bubbles on the surface.
Rain started pouring down and came to a sudden stop. Dark clouds moving and shifting swiftly. A strangely warm Feb. afternoon.
And strangly enough, felt serene. In the midst of the dramatic and different buildings, functions. Catholic church next door to a garage, galleries next to meat shops, Cafes and boutiques, high and low - but isn't it the essence of a big city, where everything is fighting for its space and its right to exist?
